I decided well over a year ago I was going to move to Ecuador to live and work by teaching English. At the time I was living in Australia dating an Ecuadorian guy, and we decided I would move here in 2015 with him, though unfortunately 2 days after I got my visa to come here things ended suddenly.
I decided I wasn’t going to waste my visa and my chance to live in and explore South America, so I decided to continue the plan I had and not stop because of the circumstances.
I Forgot Him and Didn’t Waste My Chance to Live In and Explore South America
I have been living in Quito the capital city of Ecuador since the end of January and I have been loving it!
I love the people here, the friends I have made, and I found a job easily and am in love with the city. Every direction you look in there are mountains and volcanoes and everything is so near – the Andes, the coast, the rain forest. As they say here ‘All you need is Ecuador. All you need in one place’.
After being here just 2 weeks I had already found a good job teaching English, I found an apartment right near to where I work and great house mates. Everything was falling into place, and the cost of living in Ecuador is super affordable.
I’m loving all the adventure and seeing different parts of Ecuador.
In the 4 months I have been living here, I have travelled to the coast twice to two different towns and also to the Amazon briefly. I’m loving all the adventure and seeing different parts of Ecuador, trying the coastal food and traditional Easter dishes, seeing Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World), the historic center which was one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites and learning to dance a bit more salsa.
I know my decision to move here was the right decision and that even when things don’t work out how you had planned them, especially when travelling, that you should continue with your plan, continue the journey and make it work still.
This is the second time I have had a break up right before travelling or moving to a new country, and each time I didn’t let it stop me! I wasn’t going to sit at home and be sad. I wanted to get out there, continue what I had planned, and do it on my own. I wanted to prove I could keep having fun and seeing the world. So never let anything stop you from travelling whether with someone or alone.
